WannaPlay interactive music swing at the Music Building on ‘t IJ in Amsterdam

Last September IJslander installed the interactive music installation WannaSwing on the quay in front of the Music Building in Amsterdam. The installation consists of eight swings with which music can be played. The people on the swings control the compositions.

Together with TIS Foundation IJslander developed the WannaSwing, a swing with light and sound for adults – devised by TIS Foundation. This interactive swing installation was initially developed as a movable construction that toured festivals such as Lowlands, Oerol and Over ‘t IJ. However promoters wanted to offer visitors to the quay around the Music Building a permanent special musical experience.

Maarten van Boven, general and artistic director of the Music Building: ”At the celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the Music Building in 2015 WannaSwing was already on our quay. This led to happy, unexpected encouters. With a bonus a playful way to give the audience more insight into the underlying patterns of contemporary composed music. We thought that was so beautiful that we wanted to give the installation a permanent place.”
